Soul Service is a collective of five DJs connected by a common musical passion: 60s and 70s funky sounds and love for vinyl records. They have been working together since 2005. An important task of the collective is to promote funky music from Poland – they have created seven LP/CD compilations containing Polish music from the 1960s and 70s. Over the years, they have led a weekly radio show on the nationwide station Roxy FM. They organize concerts and many other music events, and with their DJ sets they have toured clubs and festivals in many countries. The members of Soul Service are: Burn Reynolds, Kapitan Sparky, Miściak, Ojciec Karol, and Papa Zura.
Soul Service DJs have already performed in China, and in 2014 they appeared for the first time in Japan, where on 28th October their set opened the exhibition of Polish design, held as part of the project +48 Social Club in Tokyo’s VACANT gallery. On 30th October the same venue hosted their multimedia lecture on the colorful history of Polish music, culture and vinyl cover design, combined with presentations of selected pieces played on the gramophone. The DJs talked about the impact of African-American music, funk and soul on Polish musicians, and the connection between vinyl records and arms industry in 60s and 70s.
