Between 15th September and 1st October 2016, Song of The Goat Theatre will stage their play Songs of Lear in Chicago, Maryland, and New York.

Song of the Goat Theatre’s project titled Songs of Lear was brought to the USA by an invitation from Maria Isaac of Princeton University. The Adam Mickiewicz Institute supported the beginnings of the production, which was acclaimed by foreign critics. The performances in the USA will be the second time it has been presented to American audiences – it was previously featured at a showcase in New Haven. In addition to performances in Maryland and Chicago, the play is among those invited to the Brooklyn Academy of Music for the 2016 Next Wave Festival.

The project refers to the Polish theatrical tradition. Grzegorz Bral makes use of the classic William Shakespeare play to show its structure. He relies on rhythms and key motifs to build a new path of communication between the classic text and contemporaneity. The musical structure is moved to the foreground and makes a base for an utterly unique construction of the world on stage.
The Song of the Goat Theatre is a theatrical group founded in Wrocław between 1996 and 1997 by Grzegorz Bral and Anna Zubrzycka. The tradition and culture of the performing arts are the group's main inspirations, with special consideration given to its musical aspects. The Song of the Goat Theatre moved in 2002 from the Jerzy Grotowski Institute in Wrocław to its new home in the refectory of Wrocław’s 13th-century monastery.
