The self-dubbed archaeologists of the everyday are an art collective whose work contemplates a mixture of obscure belief systems and rituals of the peoples of the Caucasus, Central Asia and Eastern Europe. The area east of the former Berlin Wall and west of the Great Wall of China known as Eurasia is the focus of their multidisciplinary practice.
Through media such as sculptures, installations, textiles and printed matter, Slavs and Tatars convey the meaning of “alphabet politics” and how nations, cultures and ideologies attempt to assign a specific set of letters to a given language.
The exhibition opened on the July 18 and will run until December 14.
The duo presents their work within DMA’s Concentrations series, which began in 1981, and presents project-based solo exhibitions by emerging international artists.
