Roman Polanski's film "Ghost Writer" was the big winner at Saturday's European Film Awards, winning six awards at the award ceremony in Tallinn.
Director Roman Polanski's film was awarded for best film, best director, best screenplay (co-written with Robert Harris), best actor (Ewen McGregor), best soundtrack (Alexandre Desplat) and best art direction (Albrecht Konrad).
During the award ceremony Roman Polanski joined the other participants via internet video software Skype to accept the awards. The Oscar winner for his film The Pianist thanked his European team and expressed regret that he could not personally accept the awards in Tallinn.
Young Director Katarzyna Klimkiewicz was also awarded for her short feature film Hanoi-Warszawa.
The European Film Awards, founded in 1988, are presented annually by the European Film Academy, the awards are decided by the 2,300 members. The first laureate awarded was Krzysztof Kieślowski.
The European Film Academy is supported by the Federal Commissioner for Cultural and Media Affairs based in Berlin. Award ceremonies are held in Berlin and other European cities.
