The exhibition illustrates the career of the great Polish filmmaker in photographs of the actor and director at work thanks to archive footage and the private collections of friends and fellow directors. A series of posters on loan from the Museum of Cinematography in Łódź, has been coordinated in cooperation with the Museum of Cinematography in Łódź. The series has already been presented in Kraków, Pottsdam, London, São Paulo and Berlin.
The exhibition presents the oeuvre of one of the most renowned Polish cinematographers, a director whose films such as "Knife in the Water", "Rosemary's Baby", "Chinatown", "Tess" and "The Pianist" have gained him fame and popularity all over the world.
Roman Polański's life's work is portrayed through a display of posters, photographs and film stills from both the films he directed and acted in. It is an outstanding collection of archive materials which has not been exhibited in Poland thus far. The collection mainly consists of archive photographs from various film sets, supplemented by materials gathered from the director's closest friends, including Andrzej Wajda, Andrzej Kostenko, Gene Gutowski and Leopold Rene Nowak.
These images show Roman Polański at work. They are displayed chronologically, beginning with his early etude films made at film school, finishing off with his most recent productions. These photos were captured by the likes of Jerzy Lipman, Andrzej Kostenko, Witold Sobociński, Andrzej Kondratiuk, Guy Ferrandis and Piotr Bujnowicz.
Aside from the photographs, the exhibition consists of a unique collection of film posters collected by the Museum of Cinematography in Łódź. It comprises of more than 200 posters from all around the world including the USA, Japan, Mexico, Argentina, Turkey, Russia, Hungary, France and Germany.
