The young Polish video artist, Tomek Jeziorski designs the video projections for a performance-lecture by Robert Wilson, entitled John Cage: Lecture on Nothing as part of the Ruhrtriennale 2012
Wilson collaborates with the young Jeziorski on the performance of John Cage’s Europeras 1&2 at the opening evening of the 2012 Ruhrtriennale. John Cage created one of the major tests of experimental literature, by employing the same rules in writing as those of musical composition. Cage's lecture is exclusively composed according to musical criteria, and its subject is the lecture itself and its continuation. The pulse and the pauses taken by voice, the tempi and the sound of language stand at the foreground. This creates a domination-free space between text and silence, a language/music of sound and silence. Robet Wilson on the other hand has created a particularly musical and artifact, arti-ficial kind of theatre through his distinct esthetics of slowness, and it is this specially conceived of artificiality that has been the hallmark of his style. This anti-psychological approach to dramatic texts makes Wilson the perfect interpreter of Cage’s text.
Born in 1986, Tomek Jeziorski has been attending the programme conducted by the Robert Wilson Watermill Centre on Long Island. He is a graduate of theatre studies of the Warsaw University and he currently studies film direction at the State Fim School in Łódź. In January 2012 he cooperated with the French director Laurent Chétouane on the staging of Earthquake in Chile, based on the novel from Kleist. He has also created video projections for the famous theatre production Life and Death of Marina Abramović (Manchester International Festival, 2011) and he has cooperated with Robert Wilson as a video designer on Grace for Grace (Opéra de Monte Carlo, 2011). His film work until now has included documentary films such as Prema (2005), Joan (2009), Free Flight (2010), and short films such as Brothers (2005), Cross-country (2010) and Mora (2011). His works have been regularly screened at various film festivals.
The piece entitled John Cage: Lecture on Nothing is presented at the Jahrhunderthalle in Bochum on the 22nd and 28th of August, 2012. The showing is organised by Ruhrtriennale and it commences at 8 pm
