The company’s tour will kick off at the Tianjin Grand Theatre, a venue well known to all Polish theatre lovers in China: it was there where in 2016, thanks to the support of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, the Polish Theatre Season took place, seeing over seven thousand viewers watching five Polish productions directed by such artists as Krystian Lupa, Krzysztof Warlikowski and Grzegorz Jarzyna. It is worth mentioning that as a result of the Season, Krystian Lupa was invited to direct the performance Mo Fei based on the text by Shi Tiesheng with a Chinese-Polish cast, staged at the Tianjin Grand Theatre in 2017.
During the tour, the Polski Theatre from Bielsko-Biała will present an eclectic repertoire. The first performance to be shown is Humanoid – a futuristic story whose protagonist in search of a life partner decides to start a relationship with the eponymous humanoid robot. Later, the audience in Tianjin will watch the adaptation of Anton Chekhov's classic play Uncle Vanya, whose stage design was nominated for the Golden Mask award in 2016.
After performing in Tianjin, the Polski Theatre company will go to Hangzhou, where both performances will be staged at the Xixi Arts Center.
The tour is a part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Poland's regaining independence. Financed by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage within the framework of the 2017-2022 Multiannual Programme NIEPODLEGŁA, as part of the Cultural Bridges subsidy programme of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
