Bruno Schulz’s Cinnamon Shops will be presented in the traditional Turkish shadow theatre format named karagöz. World-renowned puppeteer and animation master Cengiz Özek will participate in the project, alongside the talented, young generation of Polish artists, including Robert Drobniuch and composer Karol Nepelski.
The aim of the project is for artists from different cultural backgrounds, operating with different aesthetics, working methods and experiences, to meet and confront one another. The organizers want young Turkish audiences to tackle Polish literature in a modern interpretation by Polish and Turkish artists.
The show will premiere on 23 October, 2014, at the Maya Cüneyt Türel Stage in Beyoğlu as part of the 17th International Festival of Puppet Theatres in Istanbul, regarded as one of the most important and prestigious art festivals in the world of puppetry.
Also available for Turkish audiences will be special screenings, followed by meetings with artists during cultural educational workshops.
