Polish speakers will present various views and reinterpretations of local traditions and the history of design, as well as reflect on classic texts about the culture of design.
Art and design historian Katarzyna Matul, who lives in Switzerland, will talk about 10 facts and myths of the Polish poster school – the phenomenon for which successive generations of Polish and foreign designers yearn nostalgically. Jakub Hakobo Stępień, a Polish designer, will give a presentation made especially for this occasion - a dynamic visual guide to Łódź in search of the vernacular sources of his projects. The phenomenon of Polish neon and its rebirth will be discussed by Ilona Karwińska and David Hill - creators of the Neon Museum in Warsaw.
The star of last year's conference, Grzegorz Laszuk, will again perform on the biggest TYPO stage. This time he will present his project under the name of Grzegorz Laszuk and the Raiders of the Lost Things. Laszuk and his team will present a trailer for the show which will be released in November as part of Manifest Fest – an event organized by Design Critic Workshop (Pracowania Krytyki Designu). Decorated with the conventions of rock operas and B-movie sci–fi, the presentation Things First - Things Last will be a theatrical reinterpretation of the iconic design manifesto First Things First published fifty years ago by Ken Garland.
The organizer of the Polish presentation at TYPO Berlin 2014 is the Design Critic Workshop. The event is organized with the support of the Polish Institute in Berlin and the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation.
