Adam Zagajewski, Adam Michnik and professor Michał Paweł Markowski represent Poland at this year's Edingurgh International Book Festival, one of the most prestigious events in the world of literature
A day devoted to Czesław Miłosz is also on the programme, as part of the "Legends of contemporary literature" series, which also features Sorley MacLean, one of the greatest Scottish poets of the 20th century.
The series includes two meetings on the 18th of August 18. At noon, at the meeting entitled "Czesław Miłosz and totalitarianism" Professor Michał Paweł Markowski and John Gray (a British philosopher and scientist, the guest of this year's Miłosz festival in Kraków) discuss the relationship between literature and totalitarianism based on the example of "The Captive Mind".
Later that day Adam Zagajewski, professor Michał Paweł Markowski and the Scottish poet John Burnside strive to answer the question of what constitutes the strength of the Polish Nobel Prize-winning artist.
Adam Zagajewski also meets with the festival's audience on the 17th of August, while a meeting with Adam Michnik is held on the 24th of August. A collection of his essays "In Search of Lost Meaning" was released in English in May of this year.
Organised since 1987, the Edinburgh Book Festival is a key event of the international art festival that takes place in Scotland's capital city throughout August and the beginning of September. The festival attracts writers, poets, philosophers, artists and more than 200 thousand guests from all over the world.
