Just over a month before the start of the cultural programme of the Polish Presidency of the EU council, which includes events in China and Japan, Beijing hosts two Polish ensembles at one of the city's most prominent musical events. Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej (New Music Orchestra) and the Lason Ensemble perform in Beijing.
The concert includes works by George Crumb, Tristan Murail as well as contemporary Chinese composers, Jia Daqun and Yu Pengfei. The programme also includes pieces composed by outstanding Polish artists, Jakub Tomasz Opalka and Marcin Rupocinski especially for this occasion.
On the second day of the festival, Beijing Modern will host the concert of the Lason Ensemble quintet - Mikolov City Chamber Players, made up of the OMN members. The programme of their performance consists of works by Polish composers: Karol Szymanowski, Grażyna Bacewicz and Aleksander Lasoń.
OMN was founded in 1996 from among the students of the Karol Szymanowski Music Academy in Katowice, upon the initiative of the composer Aleksander Lason. Its principal goal is the promotion of new music and the classical works of the 20th century. The orchestra today is predominantly made up of graduates and members of staff of the Music Academy in Katowice. In Beijing the Orchestra will perform under the leadership of the conductor Szymon Bywalec.
