The 18th-century Abbots’ Palace and its surrounding gardens, the main assets of Oliva, the historic district of Gdansk, host four days of concerts dedicated to the period's most illustrious composer
This year sees the 6th edition of the Mozartiana festival, which was launched in 2006 on the anniversary of Mozart’s 250th birthday.
The festival's diverse music offering attracts a broad audience. This year's programme features a variety of musicians and vocalists performing jazz, tango, klezmer and even Polish Highland music concerts inspired by Mozart’s works. Children are also a focus of the event, which aims to stimulate the imagination while introducing youngsters to the classics.
Another attraction of Mozartiana festival is its scenery which brings elements of the époque: windows of baroque dancers, the extras wandering dressed in historic costumes, presentations of Water Fountain, artistic lighting and music spread all over the Park. The additional surrounding of Mozart Festival makes it easier to become acquainted with the classical music as well as encourages to personal research in the field of classical music.
The beginning of the festival coincides with the height of summer, thus making it ideal for tourist from Poland and abroad to visit Gdansk in huge numbers. Admission to the concerts, apart from the final concert, is free. The current event attracted an audience of more than 30,000 people.
Fourteen music events are to take place during the International Mozart Festival Mozartiana 2011. World renowned artists from both Poland and abroad will perform during the festival. One of W.A. Mozart’s greatest works will be performed during the Final Concert, played by an international group of soloists (Martene Grimson, James Laing, Joseph Cornwell, James Oldfield, Peter Frisée) the Concilium Musicum Wien Orchestra and the Polski Chór Kameralny (The Polish Chamber Choir) conducted by Jan Łukaszewski.
