Hailed by the Washington Post as "among the most gifted guitarists on the planet", Dylla took up guitar at age 8 in the Silesian town of Ruda Śląska. His North American tour includes his debut recital at Carnegie Hall
For the Herald Tribune’s Richard Storm, the musician restored meaning to an overly popular word
in an absolutely stunning concert. (…) Judging by the total silence of the audience before the eruption of thunderous applause after each item on the program, "incredible" was back to its original strength in the hall at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Polish guitarist Marcin Dylla is a rare phenomenon in recent history of classical guitar. His awards include 19 First Prizes from 1996 to 2007 at prestigious international music competitions. His Gold Medal in 2007 at the Guitar Foundation of America International Competition in Los Angeles, known as the most prestigious guitar contest in the world, was followed by a tour of over 50 cities in North America during the 2008-09 season, a live-recital video recording for Mel Bay Publications and his CD for Naxos that reached the Naxos Top 10 in September 2008. Dylla's DVD Wawel Royal Castle at Dusk was nominated for 2010 Fryderyk Award - Poland's most recognised music awards, like the Grammy - in the category for Solo Classical Music Album of the Year.
The 2011-12 season saw Dylla's debut with the Warsaw Philharmonic conducted by Christian Arming, in programmes that featured Ponce's Concierto del Sur and Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez on consecutive nights, and recitals throughout Poland, Germany, Austria, Russia, the U.K., Greece, Portugal, Norway, Turkey, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Scotland, Slovenia, Switzerland and Mexico.
Dylla's 2012/2013 season includes his Carnegie Hall debut on the 11th of April, during a two-month tour of North America with recitals on both coasts. He returns to the Konzerthaus in Vienna and continues his extensive tour in Europe, ending in Germany at the Koblenz International Guitar Festival and Competition. He returns to the U.S. to perform at the 2013 Guitar Foundation of America Festival, followed by engagements in Mexico.
Dylla was born in 1976 in Chorzów. Between 1995 - 2000 he studied at the State Academy of Music in Katowice with Wanda Palacz. He continued his education abroad in the Musical Academy in Basel, in Switzerland with Ocar Ghiglia, at the Musical Academy in Freiburg with S. Prunnbauer, and the Conservatorium Maastricht with Carlo Marchione.
