A scene from "Holy Business" / "Święty interes" by Maciej Wojtyszko
The film is the only Polish production in this year's festival competition programme which presents 14 films from all over the world -from Hong Kong and Uruguay, to Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. Among the films are themes of love tragicomedy, black comedy, social satire, sarcastic drama, cynical melodrama and other genres, in all their diversity reflecting the nuances of a conceptual sense of humor, the main criterion for the 2011 OIFF competition.
The official presentation of the Polish Catholic comedy, about a magic car of John Paul II, with the film's director and producer is held on the 19th of July at 19:00 at the Rodina Cinema Blue Hall. The international jury headed by Polish actor and director Jerzy Stuhr (current head of the Krakow Film School) includes, Portuguese actress Maria de Medeiros and Ada Rogowcewa (Ukraine), Walerij Todorowski (Russia) and Klaus Eder (Germany). The jury is to announce the winners of the festival main prize at the closing ceremony on the 23rd of July 2011.
Although the festival is very young, the organisers don’t hide the ambition of turning it into Ukraine's main film event and have put forth an ambitious goal: to transform the Odessa International Film Festival into one of the main film forums of Eastern Europe. "Judging by the interest from the professional community and the number of people who registered for this year's edition, we are already the main festival in the country", said Denis Ivanov, the festival's director.
Other screenings of "Holy Business" / "Święty interes" at the festival are held on the 19th of July at 10:00 at the Rodina Cinema Blue Hall and on the 20th of July at 19:30 at the "U-Cinema" Hall at Odessa Film Studio.
The Odessa International Film Festival runs until the 23rd of July 2011.
