Polish conductor Łukasz Borowicz leds the Prague Symphonic Orchestra performs "My Country" by Bedřich Smetana in a special concert to celebrate the national holiday in Prague
"My Country" ("Má vlast"), a cycle of six symphonic poems, conceived by the founder of modern national Czech music Bedřich Smetana (1824-1884), is oneof the most important ideologically challenging national manifestos. The composer wanted to present the glorious history and beauty of the Czech landscape. Six poems - "Vyšehrad", "Vltava", "Šárka", "Z českých luhů a hájů", "Tábor", "Blaník" - arose between the years 1874-1879.
Łukasz Borowicz, born in Warsaw in 1977, he studied with Bogusław Madey at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw, where he later also received a doctorate in conducting under the supervision of Antoni Wit. He has served as Artistic Director of the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra since March 2007. He has appeared as a guest conductor with many ensembles including the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Komische Oper Berlin, the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Staatskapelle Halle, the Orchestra of the Opera in Marseille, I Pomeriggi Musicali of Milan, the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ukrainian National Philharmonic Orchestra Kiev and most of Polish symphony orchestras including the Warsaw Philharmonic. He made his operatic debut at the National Opera in Warsaw with Mozart's "Don Giovanni". He has also conducted the ballet performances at the National Opera. He has made recordings with such prominent singers as Ewa Podleś, Piotr Beczała, Mariusz Kwiecień, Samuel Ramey.
Łukasz Borowicz conducts the Prague Symphonic Orchestra during the "Concert for the Republic" on the 28th of October (the Independent Czechoslovak State Day) in the Smetana Hall in Prague's Municipal House, and once again on the 31st of October 2011 at 19:30 for a special charity concert.
