An exhibition of Polish design for children, introducing furniture, accessories and toys for kids, organized in collaboration with the Izmir Mediterranean Academy, goes on view between 31 October - 30 November 2014. The initiative aims to present education and play in one.
The Izmir exhibition will be an opportunity for the Turkish audience to experience what is regarded to be the most interesting examples of Polish design. Through a variety of activities including an interactive exhibition, workshops and walks, the event will take children and their parents on a long journey across design but also, most importantly, Polish culture at large.
The symbol of the exhibition Let’s play! Kids design from Poland is a stork, one of the most popular birds in Poland. Storks spend their summer months building nests nearby rural areas. When the fall comes they migrate to what Poles tend to call “the warm countries;” Turkey is one of them.
Kids design has become a strong trend in Polish design. It includes creative play products, witty and amusing books illustrated by talented graphic designers, accessories and interior design elements. Polish kids design perfectly addresses the needs of children and their parents. The Izmir exhibition will be an opportunity for the Turkish audience to experience the most interesting examples of this emerging trend from the heart of Poland.
Modeled after a board game, the arrangement of the exposition is supposed to encourage kids to join in the play and actively explore the show through testing each item. The questions and tasks posed at each exhibit will stimulate their imagination and thinking. The organizers will also provide a parlor where animators will run a series of workshops and tell the story behind each exhibit. Visitors to the parlor will be able to see beautifully illustrated books from Polish publishers, relax on comfortable seats, play Polish games, color Baobaby Studio’s specially designed map and, finally, try out new toys.
All products presented at the exhibition will be available for sale.
The curator of the event, Ewa Solarz, is a graduate of the University of Warsaw with an Art History degree. Author of children’s books promoting design, D.E.S.I.G.N. (published by Dwie Siostry) and Ilustrowany Elementarz Designu (Illustrated ABC Book of Design published by Wytwórnia), Solarz also runs her own website on interior design.
