An exhibition and a retrospective, the Jean Falal Médiathèque in Reims shows The World According to Krzysztof Kieślowski
Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the auteur's birth and the 15th anniversary of his death, the exhibition and month-long retrospective of his films, the largest of its kind in France, has visited over 40 countries since its launch in 2011 and began its French tour in Paris in September 2012.
Kieślowski won worldwide acclaim with the Three Colours Trilogy and the Decalogue series of TV films. The renowned director was an exceptional individual in Polish narrative and documentary cinema, someone who cleared the way for others, who was not afraid to ask either difficult questions nor the most fundamental and universal of questions.
His simple stories deal with complex human feelings and attempt to ask and answer the daunting question "How should one live?". The Médiathèque in Reims screens new digital versions of his artistic and box-office successes The Three Colours trilogy, the entire Decalogue series, other features and his early documentaries.
In addition to a segment dedicated to his biography, the exhibition contains film posters for Kieślowski's films from around the world, as well as "Photographs from Łódź", personal memorabilia and a series of photographs from the director's family archive made available by his widow, Maria Kieślowska. The photos were taken by Kieślowski during his studies at the National Film School in Łódź.
The exhibition is prepared by the Łódź Museum of Cinematography, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
