NOSPR musical director Jacek Kaspszyk conducts the premiere performance of Kilar's Piano Concerto No. 2. Beata Bilińska performs a solo in the piece - she is a first-prize winner at the Rina Sala Gallo Competition in Monza and finalist in the Feruccio Busoni Competition in Bolzano, Italy.
World-renowned composer Wojciech Kilar is perhaps best known for his film music. He has scored over 100 films, both Polish and international productions, alongside renowned directors such as Krzysztof Kieslowski (Blind Chance, 1981), Francis Ford Coppola (Dracula, 1992), Roman Polański (The Pianist, 2002; The Ninth Gate, 1999) and Andrzej Wajda (Pan Tadeusz, 1999). The composer has also written over twenty orchestral compositions, including Requiem to Father Kolbe (1994) and Uwertura uroczysta (Solemn Overture, 2010). He has also won a number of international awards.
Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 4 and the symphonic poem “Death and Transfiguration” by Richard Strauss are also on the programme.
