In addition to the series of concerts, JEMP aims to promote educational projects and residencies focusing on cooperation between Polish and Turkish artistic and musical circles. The festival's main theme will be music inspired by the Oriental and Balkan traditions, folklore and lifestyle.

JEMP Programme:
19 October, Arkaoda, 21:30
Featuring: Stara Rzeka & Piotr Kurek with Ekin Fil
Stara Rzeka is interested in the union of nature and technology on one hand, whilst preserving pure, natural reality on the other. His performances take on a spontaneous form and depend on the place, time and atmosphere. Piotr Kurek often makes use of amplified organs, synthesizers, electric accordion and many unusual instruments. Ekin Fil is the solo project of Ekin Üzeltüzenci who also sang and played keyboards for noise-rock trio Proudpilot. Her music is very personal and heartbreakingly delicate.
Details available on Arkaoda’s event page.

24 October, Mixer, 19:00
Zorka Wollny
Award-winning visual artist Zorka Wollny will present a special collaboration for JEMP 2014: ‘Songs of Resistance’ will be produced exclusively for the festival, in collaboration with Mixer Gallery and the members of two of Istanbul’s Boğaziçi University choirs – Jazz Choir (dir. Ayşegül Begüm Kuntman) and Rock Choir (dir. Sena Senceylan). The work will explore the revolutionary potential of the voice in the public space, using slogans, exclamations, and reading aloud as starting points, ultimately merging into a composition in the form of abstract noise. Much of Polish-born Wollny’s work functions at the boundary between the theatre and visual arts, often relating to architecture. She collaborates – taking a director-like role – with musicians, actors and dancers and with members of local communities, and her projects have also been presented in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Italy, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
25 October, ITU/MIAM Centre for Advanced Studies in Music, 20:00
Krzysztof Topolski – electronics, percussion, various & Hubert Zemler – drums, percussion
In an exciting project inspired by the manufacture of the finest Turkish cymbals, the ‘Drum Channels’ project will see electroacoustic improviser, author of soundart projects, drummer, field recordist, and curator Krzysztof Topolski (A.K.A. Arszyn) work with Hubert Zemler, a drummer notable for his work in the Polish alternative music scene. It will consist of field recording sessions, installation, local cymbal making workshops and a performance of Polish sixties experiential music including ‘Study for One Cymbal Stroke’ by Wlodzimierz Kotonski, who sadly passed away in September.
JEMP is organized as part of the cultural programme celebrating the 600th anniversary of Polish-Turkish diplomatic relations.
