Krzemińska won the Polish finals of the "Young Musician of the Year" and will represent Poland in Eurovision Young Musicians Competition in Vienna.
Young Musician of the Year is a nationwide competition for the best young talents in music performing on one of the classic instruments. Contestants cannot have more than nineteen years. The competition consisted of two stages. Twenty semi-finalists were selected by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage on the basis of their artistic achievements – include: Minister of Culture scholarship, winners of prestigious competitions.
On the 4th of April TVP Kultura viewers and the audience at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw had the opportunity to watch the final struggle for the prestigious title between seven talented young Polish musicians: Jagoda Krzemińska on flute (16 years old), Łukasz Brzezina on accordion (16 years old), Maciej Kułakowski on cello (16 years old) and Jakub Muras on saxophone(16 years old), Mateusz Makuch on violin (17 years old), Piotr Krzaczkowski on accordion (18 years old)) and Aleksander Tomaszkiewicz on cello (18 years old). The musicians were accompanied by Polish Radio Orchestra conducted by Łukasz Borowicz.
The performances of young artists were directly judged and remarked on by a jury of distinguished musicians: Krzesimir Debski (composer, conductor, violinist), Alice Paleta-Bugaj (pianist), Tadeusz Gadzina (violinist) and Tytus Wojnowicz (clarinetist). Debski stated that "The difficulty in assessing were based on the fact that the participants played on various instruments".
Jacek Marczynski in Rzeczpospolita remarked that
The success of Jagoda Krzeminska may be considered as some sort of surprise. Her competitors have chosen a very spectacular works, while she - the subtle 'Concertino' by French composer from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century Cécile Chimanade. (Musician of the year is a girl, April 5, 2012)
Jagoda Krzemińska is a young girl from Kluczbork. She is a scholar of Minister of Culture and the National Children's Fund. Last year she won an International Competition in London, a year earlier in Belgrade. For the finale of Young Musician of the Year she came straight from Slovenia, where she also won the first prize. She began playing the flute very early. And apparently she has a great talent, great sense of musical phrase and a chance to become a great artist, soloist and instrumentalist.
Her dream was to become a florist and a baker. She mentioned that she likes to walk in the mountains and learn foreign languages. And learning foreign languages will be now particularly useful for Jagoda as the prize for the winner is the invitation to represent Poland at the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition in Vienna. The European finals will be held in Vienna City Hall on the 11th of May, 2012 and broadcast to many European countries.
