Jinju Music Festival was organized for the first time in 2008 to honor Lee Sang Geun (1922-2000) - one of the most important and respected contemporary Korean composers. Final concert of 2014's edition of the Festival was broadcast live by KBS Television - the largest public TV station in Korea.
Grzegorz Nowak is the Principal Associate Conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. He has led the orchestra on tours to Switzerland, Turkey, Armenia, and in numerous appearances throughout the UK, including a very successful tour with all-Shostakovich program. His recordings have been highly acclaimed by the press and public alike, winning many awards. Diapason in Paris praised his KOS live recording with Martha Argerich and Sinfonia Varsovia as ”indispensable…un must”, and its second edition won the Fryderyk Award. His recording of The Polish Symphonic Music of the XIX Century with Sinfonia Varsovia won the CD of the Year Award, the Bronze Bell Award in Singapore and Fryderyk Award nomination. Grzegorz Nowak has conducted many of the leading orchestras in North America. He has also earned critical acclaim for his performances with the Philharmonic and Yomiuri Orchestras in Tokyo, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Taipei Philharmonic in Taiwan, and with the Jerusalem and Haifa Symphony Orchestras. Nowak has served as Music Director of such orchestras as the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Polish National Opera in Warsaw, SWR Radio Orchestra in Germany, and Sinfonia Helvetica and Festival Musique & Amitié Festival in Switzerland. He conducted operatic productions in Italy, Monte Carlo, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, the UK, Sweden, the USA and Canada, including works by Mozart, Rossini, Beethoven, Bizet, Borodin, Moniuszko, Verdi and Puccini. His production of Debussy’s Le Martyre de Saint Sébastien was broadcast live from Rome on the Eurovision television network. He received rave reviews at the 2006 Maifestspiele festival in Wiesbaden for conducting Giordano’s Andrea Chénier, directed and staged by Mariusz Trelinski for a co-production of the Warsaw National Opera with Plácido Domingo and the National Opera in Washington.
Final concert of the Jinju Music Festival was held on 29th October at 7.30 pm on the main stage of the Gyeongnam Culture & Arts Center in Jinju city.
