Tomasz Stańko Quartet performing at 2012 Jarasum International Jazz Festival
The event is held every year in late September and October on the picturesque Jara Island - "Turtle Island". It takes the form of a picnic and is considered one of the most famous and popular jazz festivals in Korea. In 2010 the festival attracted 168,000 visitors who listened to the concerts of 50 Korean and 27 foreign jazz bands, making a total of 440 invited artists. During The Jarasum International Jazz Festival the bands from around the world give concerts on several stages simultaneously, while individual jazz artists compete for the prize of 10,000,000 won (about 8800 USD). The winner also performs at the opening of the Jarasum International Jazz Festival in the following year. Additionally, the program includes workshops conducted by invited jazz artists from different countries, Jarasum Jazz Train, Jazz Kid Zone and other accompanying events.

In 2012, Poland was represented in Jarasum by four bands. On 12th and 13th October two internationally recognized teams played on the Main Stage: Tomasz Stańko Quartet and Maciej Obara Quartet. Apart from that, on 13th October Stryjo - Nikola Kołodziejczyk jazz trio performed on the Afternoon Stage, and at night the audience had the chance to dance to the music played by seven musicians of the raggamuffin band Senk Że on the Party Stage.
The project was coordinated by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in collaboration with Mr Piotr Turkiewicz – artistic director of Jazztopad Festival, who was also acting artistic director of the Polish focus at Jarasum Festival.
