The Oscar-nominated film from the Polish director took the l'Ulivo d'oro at the European Film Festival 2013 in Lecce
Loving was among 10 films shortlisted for the main prize, competing against Catherine Corsini's Three Worlds (France) and Barbara Albert's The Dead and the Living (Austria). Fabicki's picture of modern-day marriage and how sudden violence can destroy a relationship is an intimate drama that examines trust, closeness, desire, security - and nothing seems certain. Tomek (Marcin Dorocinski) and Marysia (Julia Kijowska) have to ask themselves what they can salvage as their marriage dissipates, but feelings remain. Love is depicted as a great unknown, built on the foundation of memories and the sad prose of life.
The film has already won awards including Best Film at the Kino Pavasaris18th International Festival in Wilno, as well as the Golden Prometheus in Tibilisi. Julia Kijowska won at the International Film Festival in Saloniki for her performance as Marysia.
The International Film Festival in Lecce celebrates the best films of Europe and the Mediterranean, going beyond the mainstream. Each years it screens about 100 films - features, shorts and documentaries from established and new directors. This year marks the 14th edition of the festival.
