"Czesław Miłosz in the Lithuanian Context", a monograph by Victoria Daujotyte and Mindaugas Kvietkevicziusa has won the Czeslaw Milosz Award, a prize given to the best publication dedicated to the idea of coexistence of peoples living in the Polish and Lithuanian territory
The Award was established at the initiative of the Polish Institute in Vilnius, the Lithuanian Union of Journalists and the National Association of Artists of Lithuania. It was established on the occasion of the centennial anniversary of the poet's birth.
The award ceremony was held on Friday, the 16th of December, 2011 in the Town Hall of Vilnius, closing the celebration of the Czesław Miłosz Year in this country.
There were 20 works submitted, but only seven met the conditions of the competition. There were two additional prizes awarded - to the Centre of Vilnius University, Scientific Lithuania magazine and the Znad Neris Polish Radio station in Vilnius.
The director of the Polish Institute in Vilnius Małgorzata Kasner remarked at the awards ceremony that "Milosz's personality is important not only in the context of history, culture and traditions of Poland and Lithuania, but also in the context of sharing the ideas of humanism". She also said the context would be repeated next year in a slightly different form.
In Lithuania the Czesław Miłosz presented more than 100 projects implemented throughout the country.
