On Sepember 25th 2012 the National Film Archives launched the Virtual Gallery of Film Posters (GAPLA), offering its collection of vintage cinematic posters to the public via the Internet
The gallery presents the treasures of Poland's graphic design legacy, with works by some of the most famous designers in history: Henryk Tomaszewski, Roman Cieslewicz, and Stanislaw Wojciech Zameczników, Jan Lenica and Eryk Lipinski, along with posters by artists of the next generation: John Młodożeniec, Wiktor Sadowski, Mieczyslaw Wasilewski, Andrew Pągowski, Yakup Erol and Stasys Eidrigevičius.
The gallery, yet another digital archive project following the Fototeka collection of photographs from the set and backstage of some of Poland's best-known films, presents over 2,500 posters. Ultimately, the aim is to expand the collection to 25,000.
The National Film Arhives have been digitising its collection since 2008 in order to protect the works and make them accessible for future generations. The project was made possible thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, National Film Archive Digital Repository, through the digitalizacyjny: Culture + Multi-Year Programme, which is a long-term government program managed by the National Audiovisual Institute.
