Szymon Brodziak’s photos are always in black and white and mostly of women. He has taken photos for advertising campaigns, magazines, and calendars. By combining classic techniques with more modern and controversial ones, he presents his models in unusual positions and proves that commercial work can also be art.
He has worked for glamorous brands and magazines such as Italian Vogue or Playboy, but was already being noticed outside his native Poland even as a young photographer. This year in Cannes he won the award for ‘best photographer for black-and-white campaigns’. Amongst many other prizes, he has also won the Johnnie Walker Keep Walking Award for his innovative photos and passion for new forms of beauty. His work is always on display at his gallery in Poznań: Brodziak Gallery.
Last year, Brodziak published his first major photography album, BRODZIAK ONE, featuring almost 300 photographs and keeping in the tradition of Helmut Newton. It won the Gold Medal in the Book category at the international Prix de la Photographie Paris competition. The young Polish photographer also felt honoured to be part of the Newton. Horvat. Brodziak exhibition in Berlin earlier this year.
