Principal photography on a new Bollywood production has launched in the Polish city of Kraków
The Rhythm, directed by Vivek Kumar, is a love story of Indian students who come to Kraków to study at the Jagiellonian University. The action of the whole film takes place in the southern Polish city. The film will highlight such local landmarks as the Jagiellonian University, Main Market, Bernatka bridge, as well as the Forty Kleparz and Gazowa night-clubs.
The cast of film includes some of the most successful names in Indian culture. The Rythm will be Lahore-based singer Adeel Chaudhry's film debut. "I have also given the music and have sung two tracks for the movie", Chaudhry said in an interview with the Times of India. The film's lead actress is Rinil Routh. Vivek Kumar, perhaps best known for being the producer behind Lakeer (starring Sunny Deol and John Abraham) is both the director and producer on the film.
It is the first Bollywood production to be filmed entirely in Kraków. One of the main elements of the film is an intricate dance scene, which is an instrumental part of the majority of Bollywood productions. The dance element will be see the leading actors in the city's iconic Main Square.
The production has the support of the Kraków Film Commission (KFC) and is slated to premiere next year. Yeh Jo Mahabbat Hai, a Bollywood film shot partially in Kraków and the mountain town of Zakopane in the summer of 2011, will have its premiere in India in July 2012.
According to the KFC, Kraków is a particularly film-friendly city. The structure of the Krakow Festival Office includes the Krakow Film Commission dedicated to supporting film productions. Last year alone, the KFC supported the production of over 30 films and commercials shot in Kraków and other Polish cities.
The estimated value of projects carried out in the Małopolska region (of which Kraków is the capital) increases every year. In 2010 it amounted to zł.50 million, rising to zł.70 million the following year.
