The exhibition at the Arsenal City Art Gallery puts Poznań's most recognisable artists in the spotlight - Jarosław Kozłowski, the Koło Klipsa group, Wunderteam and more
The exhibition presents the artistic life of Poznań from the last twenty-five years in all its dynamism and diversity. Art that has been created in the context of the city, characterising its presence and promoting the particular culture of its institutions, foundations and collections, through the activity of the artistic environment. From gallery initiatives to informal art groups, Poznań has made its mark as an important stronghold on the Polish art scene.
The exhibition presents works of art alongside unique archival film records from the 1980s and '90s. There are also recordings of interviews with well-known current collectors (Geażyna Kulczyk, Cezary Pieczyński) and directors of galleries (EGO, ON, Stereo). One film presents conversations with the authors of the book accompanying the exhibition. They speak about the history of art magazines, "the Poznanian school of installation" (Izabela Kowalczyk) or the public space of the city (Marianna Michałowska).
All the works are complemented by displays of miscellaneous items, such as invitations, catalogues, posters, and photographs of events related to, for example, the Koło Klipsa group, exhibitions, and the artists' activites.
Moreover, the organisers invite owners of archival materials to contribute to the exhibition and the Poznan Art Archive. Everyone, who is in possession of films, photographs and other records of visual art of that period, can contact Bogna Błażewicz of the Arsenal Gallery (contact provided below). The most interesting will be added to the current exhibition, the other to the Archive.
Curator: Wojciech Makowiecki
The exhibition runs between the 13th of January, 2012 through the 26th of February 2012.
