Agata Zubel debuts her Suites and performs the first-ever performance in Britain of Arcus by Hanna Kulenty. These compositions are presented by the Amadrums Trio - Wiktoria Chrobak-Mielec, Rafał Tyliba, Maciej Hałoń, all students of the Academy of Music in Krakow. In addition to the two Polish pieces the trio also presents Musique de Table by Thierry de Meya and Sculpture 3 by Rüdiger Pawassar.
Amadrums has participated in international festivals such as "Warsaw Autumn" and Sacrum Profanum. They have played numerous concerts, previews and won many competitions (e.g. Grand Prix at The International Competition of Contemporary Chamber Music in Kraków).
Two days before the Amadrums concert in Cantenbury, on May 27, the Cambridge King's College Choir and the Philharmonic Orchestra perform together Totus tuus by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki.
This year's "Sounds New Contemporary Music Festival" takes place in Cantenbury in the south of England from May 20-29, 2011. The festival started in 1997 by Nicholas Cleobury and it aims at promoting contemporary music, composers and performers. So far the audience has had the chance to listen to such composers as Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Jonathan Dove, Jonathan Harvey, Tunde Jegede, Magnus Lindberg, James MacMillan, John McCabe, Paul Patterson, Krzysztof Penderecki, Poul Ruders, Mark-Anthony Turnage and John Woolrich. In addition the organisers often present compositions by young artists whose careers are just taking off, such as Tarik O'Regan, Stuart McCrea and Anna Meredith.
Polish compositions have taken the stage at Sounds New in previous editions. In 2009, the works of Krzysztof Penderecki, Witold Lutosławski and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki were presented by the Polish Radio Choir and Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra in Katowice alongside Camerata Silesia. The programme featured Krzysztof Pednerecki's St Luke's Passion conducted by the composer himself.
Amadrums in concert at the "Sounds New" festival takes place on May 29, 2011 (19:45) at the Glubenkian Theatre.
