The Competition is open to youth aging 12 to 26 from all over the world. Participants will be categorized into junior (up to 16 years old) and senior (above 16 years old) groups. The first prize-winners of the senior group and of the junior group (provided that they will be over 16 years of age) will be accepted directly to the Preliminary Round of the 18th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, which will take place in 2020 in Warsaw. They will be also invited to make a study visit to Poland in 2020 organised by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, the KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. and the Fryderyk Chopin Institute.
The jury of the Beijing International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Young Pianists will comprise Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń (Chairperson), Piotr Paleczny (Poland), Dina Yoffe (Israel), Dang Thai Son (Vietnam), Wu Ying (China), Dan Zhaoyi (China), Kevin Kenner (USA), Ewa Pobłocka (Poland) and Dmitri Alexeev (Russia).
The Competition will be accompanied by workshops and concerts. Moreover, on 29th October 2019 a press conference announcing the 18th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition will be held.
The Competition is organised by the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, the Beijing 21st Century Sino-Polish Culture & Arts Exchange Center and the Musical China (Beijing) Culture and Arts Co. Ltd. The event is supported by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Polish Institute – Cultural Service of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Beijing, the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music and the KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
The previous edition of the Competition was held from 16th to 30th October 2016.
