After several years of break in performing contemporary music, he has come back to the stage, cooperating with the younger generation of the improvising artists like Sławomir Janicki (double bass), Michał Górczyński (clarinet) and Andrzej Izdebski (guitar). He plays works by great classical and contemporary composers like Antonio Vivaldi, Henry Eccles, Johann Sebastian Bach, Benedetto Marcello, Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann, Bogusław Scheaffer, Krzysztof Penderecki, Krzysztof Knittel or Wojciech Kilar. Some of the leading contemporary composers have written especially for Piernik and many dedicated their pieces to him. In the 70’s and 80’s Piernik cooperated with the National Theatre in Warsaw and in Łódź. He has also been involved in educational activity.
He has performed the stages of the whole world, including those in Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, France, Portugal, Sweden, Japan, Mexico and the US, where he is respected for uniqueness and the power of expression. He has made numerous recordings as a soloist, with the piano accompaniment or with symphonic orchestras for Polish record labels or for the radio in Germany, Belgium, France, Sweden, the UK.
