Skubas, who earlier made decent electronic and drum’n’bass music, turned out to be a fully-fledged songwriter. On his studio album, he was backed by great musicians: Emade or Piotr Waglewski on drums, Andrzej Smolik on keyboards and Filip Jurczyszyn on bass guitar.
In the past, Skubas used to perform alongside Smolik, Fisz Emade and Novika as Sqbass. Skubas’ real name is Radek Skubaja and he comes from Lublin. His ideas for songs bring to mind music from twenty years ago, from grunge's heyday, as well as the recent folk revival. On one hand, the artist composes disturbing, dark ballads, on the other, he feels comfortable with songs based on hard, distorted guitar sounds. His timbre is unusual, slightly coarse, and he sings convincingly in both Polish and English. He wasn’t in a rush to release his solo album, even though he had been writing music for a long time. What’s more, the material for his next album is already prepared. Skubas is modest enough to claim that he began writing texts just because of Wilczełyko. The results were great, not only for a debutant. For example: “Dullness is coming, it keeps reminding me that / I used to want something, but I don’t need that anymore / never enough, more and more, less / I want your body less and less”.
A great album is one thing in Skubas' favour, and another is his lively, expressive concerts, during which Skubas takes on a role similar to that of Lech Janerka – quickly establishing a rapport with the audience and "guiding" them through his world. The artist from Lublin can’t stop performing, and exchanging energy with the listeners brings him genuine joy. Skubas revealed another, more personal side in the recordings made for the Otwarta Scena / Open Stage series of concerts. These recordings were created by the duo that he forms together with Maciej Starnawski. Skubas is also active as a cover artist. He recently worked on TV Head by Loco Star, and the resulting track was released on a single alongside a few other remixes.
