Interior designer whose motto is 'beauty, courage, freedom’. She creates timeless yet ultra-modern interiors. She lives in Warsaw.
Born in 1976, she is a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. In 2019, she founded her own brand, Katarzyna Baumiller Studio, under which she creates her projects. The interiors she designs are meticulously thought-out and functional, full of contrasts yet harmonious. In her work, she focuses on the specific place and the people she is designing for. As she said in an interview with Hanna Rydlewska for Vogue: 'I have a rule in design: I always start from the beginning. I don’t imitate myself [...] or anyone else, although, of course, I draw inspiration from others’.
She often has the opportunity to work on the interiors of tenement houses, which allows her to give them a completely new character while preserving the original essence of the apartments. She is a maximalist and knows no limits, and her personal style is defined by bold colours and geometric shapes. In a conversation with Hanna Rydlewska, she said:
I am a strong intuitionist. I like moments when something appears as a trend that contradicts previous logic because it encourages me to seek non-linear solutions in my work, to provoke a little.
Although certain elements frequently recur in her projects – such as the influence of the 80s and 90s, the use of natural wood, and various forms and shapes – she avoids defining her style. Instead, she emphasises that each project begins with a blank page and is a response to the unique situation: the person, the context, and the possibilities.
