Agata Nowotny deals with the sociology and anthropology of design, material culture and visual culture. She carries out research on popular culture and new media.
Agata Nowotny completed a PhD at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Warsaw. She specialises in qualitative social and marketing research (focus groups, individual interviews, observations, semiotic analysis, ethnographic research), training courses and creative workshops (for different target groups: designers, representatives of NGOs, cultural institutions). Agata Nowotny co-operates with the Society for Creative Initiatives, where she coordinates the ‘ZOOM on Cultural Centres: Strategies for Development’ project. Since October 2011, she has been responsible for the sociology programme at the School of Form – an innovative school of design.
She also works with the Association of Applied Graphic Designers, which prepared an exhibition during the Polish EU Presidency in 2011 called ‘Design for Freedom – Freedom in design: Polish Graphic Design from 1981 to 2011’ in Tokyo and Berlin.
