The Icon Awards 2013 winners have just been announced. This December’s winning international designers and architects are presented with bespoke trophies by Polish designer Oscar Zięta.
The Icon Awards are presented at the Icon Magazine’s annual celebration of the best in architecture and design from Britain and across the world. A bespoke trophy designed by Oskar Zięta, using his Fidu technique, was given to each winner. As announced by the Icon Magazine, these beautiful, one-off pieces are each made slightly differently and bear the official stamp of the 2013 awards.
Established by Oskar Zięta, Zieta Prozessdesign is a multidisciplinary team of architects, designers, engineers and technologists based in Zurich and Wrocław. They cooperate with psychologists, biologists, scientists and many others specialists in order to create the most innovative solutions. Zieta Prozessdesign’s philosophy is to celebrate design both as a manifest of technology and as a space for experiments and fun.
In defining their innovative signature technology, Oskar Zięta notes:
FiDU is the most innovative technology developed by Zieta Prozessdesign. FiDU is an abbreviation of the German term “Freie-Innen-Druck-Umformung” (Free Inner Pressure Forming). It means that two shapes cut from steel sheets are welded around their edges and inflated into a 3d object. The deformation of flimsy metal sheets caused by the pressure makes them stable and rigid.
Zieta Prozessdesign’s research is not only focused on architecture and design. They cooperate amongst others with the car and space industries. A wide range of FiDU applications are made possible especially by aerodynamically customized shapes of ultra-light constructions and volumetric expansion.
Judged by top names and industry experts, the Icon Awards is one of the most prestigious prizes in the design circles. This year’s awards were announced 5 December, 2013.
