Director of 11 bit studio Grzegorz Miechowski said:
We are very pleased with the possibility to collaborate with creators of the popular and appreciated worldwide Neuroshima Hex. It is a guarantee that TWoM is going to present the highest quality possible.
The board game will be for up to six players, but, unusually, it will also have a single player mode. It will use the same characters as in the electronic games, but the creators say it will feature hundreds of new tasks and group-based decisions.
Michał Oracz, maker of electronic card game Earthcore: Shattered Elements, board games Tezeusz: Mroczna Orbita and Neuroshima Hex, and epistolary role-play game De Profundis, said:
The dark atmosphere in This War of Mine and difficult choices the players have to make, makes the game perfect for turning into a board game.
Oracz stated that TWoM will be complemented with an app enriching the game with new campaigns and tasks, new information and audiovisual materials. Further information about This War of Mine can be found at www.thiswarofmineboardgame.com.
The management board of 11 bit studio has not given any details about the release date. Miechowski explains:
We will reveal further information about the premiere gradually, same as before the video game and mobile game release in order to build up tension and players' curiosity.
According to the director of 11 bit studios, the paper version of TWoM will have a significant impact on the company's future performance. He underlines that there is currently a worldwide renaissance in board games and that the business is growing dynamically. He underlines that the biggest hits are sold in hundreds of thousands of copies.
The board game for This War of Mine will not be the first adaptation of a Polish video game. At the end of 2014, thanks to a collaboration between CD Projekt Red and American Fantasy Flight Games, Ignacy Trzewiczek’s The Witcher: Adventure Game was made available. Sales for the most popular contemporary board games such as Catan or Carcassonne can reach over a million copies per year, while some Polish titles sell around 100,000 annually.
11 bit studio has already released video game This War of Mine for PC (November 2014), tablet (July 2015) and smartphone (November 2015). Sales revenue from the games, the production costs of which were about 2 million zlotys (plus several extra hundred thousand for the mobile version), has already exceeded 30 million zlotys ( as of September 2015). The premiere of the PS4 and Xbox One versions under the name This War of Mine: The Little Ones is planned for 29th January 2016.
Based in Warsaw, 11 bit studios SA has operated in the games market since 2010. They have produced multi-platform video games, as well as establishing a publishing project called 11 bit launchpad. The company also owns the Games Republic platform which deals with online video games distribution. The company is publicly listed on the NewConnect market.
