South Korea, Poland and the USA are the countries with the strongest representations – each of them has three pianists in the 3rd stage. Both Russia and Canada still have two musicians each competing. The 3rd stage will also have performances by pianists from Italy, Croatia, Czech Republic, Latvia, China, Japan and Ukraine. The head of the jury told participants who failed to qualify for the 3rd stage:
You are young and amazing artists. If you love music truly and do not care only about the career, this unpleasant moment can be valuable for you. The artist needs all kinds of experiences. These sad ones even more. Chopin was not a happy person and his masterpieces were not the results of being happy. Please, take these results and follow your artistic path, build your personality and success will come. You do not need to look for it, it will find you.
The programme of the 3rd stage includes: Piano Sonata No. 3 in B minor, Op. 35 or Sonata in B flat minor, Op. 58 or the full series of Preludes Op. 28; the full series of mazurkas, Op. 17, 24, 30, 33, 41, 50, 56 and 59; optional work by Chopin (only if the rest of the performance was under the minimum duration time). Duration time of 3rd-stage performances should be 50 to 60 minutes. The names of the pianists to make it to the final will be announced on 16th October in the evening.
