The 10 Finalists of the 17th Chopin Competition Announced
The competition jury headed by Professor Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń has chosen 10 finalists from 8 countries including two musicians from both the USA and Canada, and one each from Croatia, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, Poland and Russia.
The following pianists will perform in the finals of the 17th Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition :
- Seong-Jin Cho (South Korea)
- Aljoša Jurinić (Croatia)
- Aimi Kobayashi (Japan)
- Kate Liu (USA)
- Eric Lu (USA)
- Szymon Nehring (Poland)
- Georgijs Osokins (Łotwa)
- Charles Richard-Hamelin (Canada)
- Dmitry Shishkin (Russia)
- Yike (Tony) Yang (Canada)
The finals start on 18th October at 18.00 and will last until 20th October. The first to perform is Seong-Jin Cho from South Korea. Pianists will perform one of Chopin's piano concertos: Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11 or Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21. The artists will be accompanied by the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra under Jacek Kaspszyk. The winners will be announced between 20th and 21st October.
