Loving Vincent by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman was astounding as early as the production stage. The 95-minute film is made up of 65,000 paintings painted in Vincent Van Gogh’s style. From among 5,000 entries, 125 artists were chosen, who, frame by frame, painted the story of the Dutch artist’s life, using more than 3,000 litres of paint. This makes it the world’s first fully-painted feature film – a feat in and of itself.
Loving Vincent seems to be destined for international success. Even before its premiere, the rights to the film had been sold to 130 countries. So far, the film has been nominated for, among others, the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs, Critics Choice Awards and the SAG Awards, and won a European Film Award in December 2017.
The Oscar nominations were announced on 23rd January 2018. The Academy Award ceremony will take place on 4th March 2018.
