Małgorzata Janicka-Słysz is a music theorist, a professor of art, the head of the Music Theory and Interpretation Department at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków, a member of the editorial committee of the journal Teoria Muzyki: Studia, Dokumentacje, Interpretacje (Music Theory: Studies, Documentation, Interpretation) (since 2013), a member of the Musicologists’ Section of the Polish Composers’ Union. She published the books Vytautas Bacevićius i Jego Idee Muzyki Kosmicznej (2001) (Vytautas Bacevićius and His Ideas of Cosmic Music) and Poetyka Muzyczna Karola Szymanowskiego: Studia i Interpretacje (The Poetics of Karol Szymanowski’s Music: Studies and Interpretations) (2013, nominated for the J. Długosz Award in 2014), as well as over 50 articles in Polish and foreign edited works. She participated in international conferences in Vilnius, Aarhus, London, Leuven, Paris, Lisbon, Aberdeen, Belgrade, and Cluj, as well as in musicology conferences in Poland. She holds the position of the creative director of Castello Art Group, which co-organises, together with the Wawel Royal Castle, the summer music festival “Wawel at Twilight” (13 editions so far). She received numerous awards, including the Excellence in Teaching award. In 2013, she became the Programme Director at the Karol Szymanowski Museum in ‘Atma’ villa in Zakopane, a branch of the National Museum in Kraków.
