Paweł Pawlikowski’s Ida won at the 5th edition of the Al Este de Lima Festival. This is another in a long line of international awards for the Polish blockbuster.
Al Este De Lima is a film festival presenting the most interesting film productions of the Central and Eastern Europe countries and the Caucasus. Its aim is to familiarize Latin American viewers with cinema which is quite unknown in that region. The intention of the event creators is for the festival to be full of not only contemporary films but also those a little older which have become a part of cinema history. In addition to the main competition, films were shown in several thematic sections, including Gypsy Night, Reversed Polarity - 25 Years Without the Iron Curtain, and Young Authors.
In the main competition, 10 films appeared. Of these, 3 were from Poland: Papusza by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze, Floating Skyscrapers by Tomasz Wasilewski, and Pawlikowski’s winning Ida.
Ida's win continues its intercontinental winning streak - it had already won, amongst others, the American Society of Cinematographers Award, first prize in the main competition at the 21st Camerimage, Warsaw Grand Prix at the 29th Warsaw Film Festival International Competition and the main trophy at the 57th London Film Festival.
