Jakub Mazerant, the originator of the project, drew the first frame of the comic book and posted it into the internet. Each person continued the comic, inspired by previous drawings and not knowing how the action would develop. The result is a 93-author-story about a pink die, a dog, a king, demons and two boys in a balloon.
Participants included Tadeusz Baranowski, Przemysław Truściński, Janek Koza, Tomasz Leśniak, Clarence Weatherspoon and Andrzej Pągowski. The comic has been acknowledged as holding the World Guinness Record for most contributors to a published comic book
I believed that the form of the graphic story would be an interesting opportunity for creative dialogue between completely different personalities. The project was to involve representatives from various fields of art, not just comic artists. The local action quickly changed into this international endeavour. My project attracted attention to the artists from all over the world. - says Jakub Mazerant
The creation of Project Pieces took four years. The last piece was drawn by Tadeusz Baranowski in February 2010. After another four years, in February 2014, Project Pieces was released in print. Apart from the 31-page comic book, biographies of involved artists were also included. The album was released in English in Australia.
The album itself is not for sale. Nearly 100 copies will be delivered to the artists involved in the project. Part of the printing will be free of charge and added to a limited edition of T-shirts created on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the IllustrateYourself.com Gallery. We are also passing free copies of the album to libraries and galleries, such as the Museum of Modern Art Library in Sydney. If any institutions or cultural institutions in Poland are interested in receiving Project Pieces, please contact us. - explains James Mazerant.
Work on the second edition of Project Pieces was started in September 2012. The première of this album is planned for 2015.
