Gdańsk will find itself in the company of cities like New York, London and Barcelona as the setting for a localised version of Monopoly. There are also variant boards on the theme of James Bond, Disney, Star Wars, football clubs, the Beatles, and Pirates of the Caribbean, among others.
It is still unknown which famous monuments or streets will be put on the board. The game's developers encourage people from Gdańsk to influence the shape of the game and the selection of sites.
We are proud to announce the first Monopoly edition in Poland dedicated exclusively to one city – Gdańsk - the city of freedom - says the man behind the localised Monopoly edition, Bartłomiej Sikorski from the Winning Moves company. - At the moment, we are working on the selection of boxes for the board. This is an extremely difficult task, because there are plenty of places and streets to put on - he adds.
The Gdańsk edition of Monopoly game is to launch in October 2014 and is limited to around three thousand copies. The price is likely to be in the region of PLN 100.
Monopoly is one of the most famous board games in the world. Created in the U.S. by Charles Darrow, it will celebrate its 80th anniversary next year.
