The film’s protagonists, Angelo (Riccardo Leonelli) and Kasia (Agata Buzek, European Shooting Star in 2010), met in Italy as part of a prayer group called Focolari. They are united through love to each other and God. The nature of their relationship changes once the girl returns to Poland and decides to join a convent. Angelo comes to Warsaw to try to change her mind. Waiting for her decision, he takes up a job for an international corporation.
The company is headed by the ruthless and cynical Kris (Agnieszka Grochowska). In the corporate environment, the deeply religious Angelo becomes the victim of derision and mobbing. Kris uses her power to make fun of him and tries to force him to break his moral rules. Simultaneously, she is fascinated by her victim.
The film’s producers write,
Once again the creator of Camouflage asks the most important questions and provokes a discussion. He tackles the very current topic of God in the public space. By placing his protagonist in the middle of two worlds with colliding values, he scrupulously observes the division between a Catholic and a non-religious Poland.
The script to Foreign Body was written by Krzysztof Zanussi, the cinematography is by Piotr Niemyjski who worked on Bartek Konopka's Fear of Falling. Italian actor Riccardo Leonelli returns to work with Zanussi after their Polish television experience in The Internal Voices. Shooting took place in Ancona and continues in Warsaw and Moscow. Its title is still under specualtion, and Foreign Body is also known as Inner Voice. Co-produced by Italian Revolver by Paolo Spina with the Polish production company Tor Film and the Russian Fora Film, the film's premiere is scheduled for 2014.
