Wiedźmin 3: Dziki Gon / The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an interactive comic book to be released on 19th March 2014 by the famous American publishing house Dark Horse, which is known for its ambitious independent publications including Hellboy, Usagi Yojimbo, Sin City and numerous series set in the Star Wars universe.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt video game will be the third in the series, preceded by The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, based on the series of fantasy novels of the same title by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt video game is currently being developed by CD Projekt RED, a video game and home video distribution company based in Warsaw, Poland.
The Witcher interactive comic book presents the story of Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster slayer, who has to deal with the spirit of a woman abandoned in a mansion haunted by ghosts and monsters. The creators of the U.S. publication of the series include writer Paul Tobin, artist Joe Querio, and Dave Johnson, who designed the cover. Johnson is a recognizable cover-artist in the U.S. who has previously worked on high profile and highly regarded series such as 100 Bullets and BPRD.
In Poland, The Witcher has already been published twice as a comic book. In the 90s Bogusław Polch drew six albums to Maciej Parowskiego’s storyline, originally based on the novel by Sapkowski. The design of the protagonist was faithful to the literary original, but aroused controversy. In 2011, The Witcher appeared in a two-part comic drawn by Arkadiusz Klimek (coloured by Łukasz Poller) with a storyline by Michał Gałek. While Klimek based his design on the Przemek Truściński game, Gałek wrote the storyline based on the fantastical world invented by Sapkowski.
iPhone and iPad applications for earlier issues in the series are available for download on iTunes.
