Adam Mickiewicz Institute, under the brand Culture.pl, and Transatlantyk Festival invite young filmmakers to take part in the new short film contest Capturing Freedom. The contest opens up an opportunity for young filmmakers to explore female ideals of freedom and independence as well as the power of women today – what do independence and the pursuit of freedom mean to women around the globe?
This year we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of one of Poland’s most celebrated trailblazers, extraordinary scientists and Nobel prize-winners, Maria Skłodowska-Curie. Such a significant figure in Polish culture, she changed the world as we know it. Albert Einstein had said:
I have always admired Maria. Not only did she do outstanding work in the field of science, not only did she help humanity through her work, but she did her work the highest moral integrity. She accomplished all of this with a great strength, the best intentions, commitment, objectivity and judgment. It is very rare to find all of these qualities in one individual.
The organisers of the Capturing Freedom Short Film Contest ask participants to explore stories of women, such as Skłodowska-Curie, whose pursuit of freedom has influenced the world around them – both locally and globally. The Power of Woman, the theme of this year’s Transatlantyk Festival, can serve as a source of inspiration, as a starting point for stories about freedom and actions taken by strong, visionary and charismatic women. The shorts can also serve as a platform to share stories of everyday struggles and women’s fight for freedom and independence in the modern world.
The film shorts must be submitted by no later than 10th June 2017 via the submission form. The best film will be chosen by a jury comprising:
- Bartek Konopka – director, chairman of the jury
