Belarusian Music Promoter Dmitri Bezkorovainyi Inspired by Don’t Panic We’re From Poland
Leading promotion manager and music journalist Dmitiri Bezkorovainyi recently stated that his recent successes in promoting Belarusian artists were inspired by Don’t Panic We’re From Poland, a promotional platform for emerging Polish artists.
Thanks to Bezkorovainyi’s efforts Belarusian bands, which until recently were notably absent from the international circuit, are now playing in foreign countries more and more often.
This year for the first time new Belarusian bands are showcased at Reeperbahn, one of Europe’s biggest music events focusing on emerging artists, in Hamburg, Germany. This presence shows that their local music scene is undergoing a change. Traditionally, Belarus pop bands have little ties to foreign countries apart from Ukraine and Russia. Now, thanks to Dmitiri Bezkorovainyi, who started revamping the Belarussian music scene a few years back, this situation is evolving.
In 2008 Mr. Bezkorovainyi, who has collaborated with top bands from his country and acted as press agent for the Prodigy and Nickelback, amongst other, created Experty.by, an independent website providing information on Belarussian music. The page grew into a major focal point for the local scene. Later he became interested in publicising Belarusian bands in Europe and that is when he got inspired by Don’t Panic We’re From Poland, a programme created by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, a state organisation promoting Polish culture.
Thanks to the programme’s assistance numerous Polish artists have appeared at important music festivals in the U.S., Germany, Spain and other countries. In a recent interview Mr. Bezkorovainyi, who has been advised by professionals from the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, points to DPWFP as a source of inspiration. He also mentions that ‘all the practical tips and tricks [from the programme’s experts] were priceless.’
