30 Years of Polish-Korean Cooperation: Logo Contest Results Announced
On 15th March 2019, the results of the logo design contest organised by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Paju Typography Institute (PaTI) from Korea were announced. The winning design by Eun Koh, a Korean student of the PaTI Institute, will become the official logo of the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Poland and Korea.
On 1st November 1989, the bilateral diplomatic relations between Poland and the Republic of Korea were officially established. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of this event, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute together with its Korean partner, Paju Typography Institute (PaTI), held a contest to design a logo for the cultural programme celebrating the anniversary. The contest was addressed to students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the PaTI Institute. 43 participants submitted their projects to the contest and the jury decided to award three main prizes and six honorary mentions. The jury assessed the entries according to the following criteria: artistic value, coherence with the theme of celebration, originality, graphic quality, readability and the applicability in various formats and display forms.
Jae Ok Lee, the President of the Jury, commented on selecting Eun Koh as the winner:
Eun Koh's work shows most welcoming and celebrating ambiance in its very harmonious composition. The jury members appreciated its openness and imaginative quality in visual formation and colour composition. While the visual expression of the work creatively demonstrates the two nations' national identities in a calm and balanced manner, it brings up wide opportunity for its logo applications and gives viewers a room to create a story. It is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also promising in its practical functionality.

The logo contest was another joint project of Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Paju Typography Institute. In 2017, the PaTI headquarters near Seoul hosted Magdalena and Artur Frankowski's exhibition Design for Art, a lecture and two-day book cover design workshops addressed to students, while in 2018 Professor Lech Majewski conducted a lecture and workshops at the PaTI. 2019 will see the exhibition of PaTI students' works held at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
The cultural programme celebrating the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Poland and Korea organised in 2019 by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute comprises presentations of Polish film, theatre, design and cuisine as well as concerts of classical and folk music. The programme has been prepared in collaboration with the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Polish Embassy in the Republic of Korea.
