Excerpt of a still-frame from Jan Kwieciński's Fawns, part of Fourth Dimension
Val Kilmer plays Val Kilmer in the oddball three-part feature directed by Jan Kwieciński, Alexey Fedorchenko and Harmony Korine and coproduced by Poland, Russia and the USA
Eddy Moretti, the enfant terrible of the magazine publishing industry and the man behind Vice Magazine, plays a General who leads a troika of directors through an insane adventure in time and space dictated by his own crazed manifesto. The journey begins with American director Harmony Korine's new age brainchild The Lotus Community Workshop, starring Val Kilmer as himself. Alexey Fedorchenko's Chronoeye comes next with his story of a Russian time traveler whose expectations for seeing the past stifle his ability to live in the present and finally Polish director Jan Kwieciński's Fawns follows a carefree group of friends through an abandoned town that's about to get hit by a flood. The three films are spliced and meshed together to create a wild ride through places and time, presenting a daring debut for three talented up-and-coming directors.
The international coproduction is screened in the original English, Russian and Polish, with English subtitles. The film had its world premiere at the San Francisco Film Festival on the 20th of April. Screenings at the Tribeca Film Festival take place as part of the Viewpoints section, with the New York premiere taking place on the 24th of April (at 6:00 pm), with additional screenings on the 25th (8:30 pm) & 27th of April (3:30 pm).
Małgorzata Szumowska's Elles, a Polish-French coproduction is also on the programme at the Tribeca Film Festival, with screenings on the 22nd, 23rd and 25th of April. The film is about a well-to-do journalist preparing an article on prostitution among female students for Elle magazine. As she gets to know these young women on a more personal level, she becomes drawn to their stories and their lives, even sympathising with their lifestyles and taking a new look at her own life and family. ,
Jan Kwieciński was born in 1985. He holds an MA in Theatre Studies from the Theatre Academy in Warsaw, a degree from the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Directing and an MA in Filmmaking from the London Film School. He has directed several short films, documentaries, commercials and music videos.
