The film Casting in Tel-Aviv is the next step in the search of answers to the questions: who is Katarzyna Kozyra and who should play her in the lead role in a full-length autobiographical feature film she is working on? Kozyra is fascinated by identity and has emphasised that no matter how one looks, how old one is, what one's gender is or views or origin, important is a readiness to commit oneself emotionally to a role, in this case the role being to play her.
The first part of the "Casting" project took place at her solo exhibition "Katarzyna Kozyra: Casting" held in Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw (Dec. 2010 – Feb. 2011).
The Warsaw-based artist studied and started her career in her hometown. She is one of Poland's most renowned artists, known to local audiences not only for her artworks, but also, or most of all, through the media. Israel, for her, is a neutral ground, to which she would like to introduce herself. Thus "Casting in Tel Aviv" provides local audiences with the opportunity to look at Kozyra also from a critical perspective of viewers belonging to another culture, with other experiences and other outlook on things.
Especially for the event in Tel-Aviv Kozyra prepared an info kit about herself and her work. The set includes fragments of autobiography, a short description of selected works, a few photos and a specially made film movie for the event. Based on these materials the participants should invent a small part of a scenario about Kozyra, interpret it according to their own vision of the artist and act it in front of the audience and camera. The participants have complete freedom of interpretation.
The casting-call takes place over two-days (27-28 October 2011) at the Center for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv, Israel.
Among the participants Kozyra will invite selected individuals to collaborate on her film.
The project is organised by the Center of Contemporary Art Tel Aviv and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
